ALFRED EDWARD ‘AL’ GRANTHAM
Henderson, TN: Alfred Edward Grantham age 85 passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Laurelwood Healthcare Center in Jackson.
He was born in Parkin, AR and reared in Helena, AR the son of the late Ralph H. and Ruby Shaw Grantham. He graduated from Aubrey High School. He served in the Air Force from 1947 until 1951 during Korea. He made his home in Flint, Michigan where he worked for General Motors for 14 ½ years. He moved to Memphis in the early 70’s and worked for Proctor & Gamble until retiring in 1988. He was married to Jessie O. Spencer in 1972. They moved to Henderson in 1988. Mr. Grantham was a member of the Finger Methodist Church and attended Trinity United Methodist Church.
Mr. Grantham is survived by three sons, Ralph Grantham and wife Rebecca of Big Sandy, TX, Robert Grantham and wife Gaye of Wynona, TX and Kenny Grantham and wife Donna of Coatsville, Pennsylvania and three daughters, Judy Yocom and husband Joe of Wynne, AR, Barbara Phelps and husband Jerry of Mooringsport, LA and Becky Young and husband Daniel of Longview, TX; step-children, Bobby Young and wife Betty of McKenzie, TN and Brenda (Paulette) Jones of Memphis, TN; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; a brother, Jimmy Grantham and wife Dorothy of Wynne, AR and a special niece, Mildred Kee who devoted so much of her time to his care and transportation for eight years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jessie Spencer Grantham in 2006 and a sister, Betty Jo Ligon.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Donald Rhodes officiating and burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel beginning at 12 Noon on Friday until service time.
