Alvin Ellington
Beech Bluff: Alvin Emerson Ellington, age 70, died Friday evening, September 19, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Ellington was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up at Beech Bluff, the son of the late Raymond Lee and Theda Acquilla Hendrix Ellington. He graduated from South Side High School in 1962 and married Shirley Massengill in 1964. They made their home at Beech Bluff and he worked at Riverside Chemical, Swift, which later became UniTex, and then worked for 25 years at American Olean Tile until he retired in 2007.
He loved wood working and enjoyed working in the yard and garden. He attended Beech Bluff Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Massengill Ellington, a son Jeffery Ellington and wife Donna of Bartlett, two daughters; Cindy Sullins and husband Ray of Springfield, MO, Sharon Hamm and husband Martin of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL six grandchildren; Nikki Sullins, Trey Sullins and wife Ruth, Chase Sullins, William Hamm, Andrew Hamm, and Matthew Hamm, and two sisters; Sonja Hamm of Lexington and Darla Gaines of Jackson. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Buford Ellington and Gayle Ellington.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Kevin Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Beech Bluff.
The family will received friends at Casey Chapel from 6:00 pm until 9:00 PM Sunday.
