Alvin Washington (Punt) Wright departed this life on Friday May 16, 2014 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama at the age of 94 Years, 24 Days. He was born April 22, 1920 in Wayne Co., TN, the son of the late Henry Washington and Ella Penola Montgomery Wright. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Lorene Vickery Wright; son, Carl Wright; brothers, Hubert and Cecil Wright; sisters, Ethel Balentine, Myrtle Vickery, Ollie Weeks and Wylodean Craig.
Mr. Wright was retired from TVA, was a farmer and enjoyed raising mules and fox hunting. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II receiving a Purple Heart. Mr. Wright was a member of the Cornerstone Church in Collinwood, Tennessee.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Allison Wright of Cypress Inn, TN; a son, Billy R. Wright and wife, Ruth of Florence, AL; daughters, Betty Stults of Russellville, Al, Helen Stutts of Scott Bend, IN, and Kathy Russell and husband, Mark of Cypress Inn, TN; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 great-great- grandchildren; a sister, Rachel Craig of Cypress Inn, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Cornerstone Church in Collinwood, Tennessee, with Gary Hodum, John Hodum and David Thompson officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cypress Inn, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Craig, Dalton Craig, Sawyer Russell, and William (Bill) Martin.
Visitation will be on Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm and Monday, May 19, 2014 from 12:00 noon until service time at Cornerstone Church, Collinwood, TN.
