BETTY ANNE BEELER PEVAHOUSE

Betty Anne Beeler Pevahouse of Henderson, TN died at her home on Friday, June 20, 2014. She was born on March 22, 1931 in Lexington, TN, the daughter of Vernon A. and Alene Butler Beeler. Her mother died when she was only two weeks old and she was raised in the Beeler’s Union City home by her father and two aunts, Ruth Beeler and Minnie Lee Beeler.

She attended public schools in Union City where she graduated from Union City High School as valedictorian in 1948. She attended the University of Tennessee Junior College at Martin where she was a campus beauty and upon graduation, received the Paul J. Kruesi Award in recognition of her scholastic and campus achievements. She continued her education at Memphis State College where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority and the Liberal Arts Honor Society. Upon graduation, she taught in the Memphis City School System.

In 1952, she was united in marriage to Joe N. Pevahouse. While Joe was in the service, they made their home in Columbia, South Carolina. After Joe was discharged from the Army, they returned to Jackson, Tennessee and subsequently to Henderson, their home for 52 years. In Henderson, Betty Anne worked in the family business, City Drug Store, where she helped with bookkeeping.

A lifelong Methodist, she was a member of First United Methodist Church in Henderson, where she taught Sunday School and was involved in the local church and district work of the United Methodist Women.

Betty Anne was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking wonderful meals for her family, as well as hobbies of painting, reading and photography.

Betty Anne is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Joe N. Pevahouse, as well as their three children: Thomas Neil Pevahouse of Greenwood, SC, Dr. Joe Beeler Pevahouse (Vicki) of Little Rock, AR, and Ann Claire Pevahouse Gaddy (Jeff) of Henderson, TN. Her grandchildren are Casey Pevahouse, Daniel Pevahouse, Michael Barrett (Sarai), Spencer Pevahouse, and Ann O’Neal Pevahouse. Her great granddaughter is Olivia Claire Barrett.

Her family will receive friends in visitation on Sunday, June 22 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel in Henderson, TN. Funeral services will be Monday, June 23, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Henderson. Burial will be at Henderson City Cemetery.

Any memorial gifts to Betty Anne’s life may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Henderson or the Church’s associated Gleaner's House ministry.
