Betty Rickard
Betty Irene Williams Rickard, age 85, died Sunday morning, November 17, 2013 at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Mrs. Rickard was born in Henderson and grew up in Alabama, the daughter of the late Jettie Euraldine (J.E.) and Betty Irene Anderson Williams. She graduated from Vina High School in Vina, Alabama in 1946 and married John R. Rickard that same year. They made their home in Hialeah, FL, East Point, GA, Melbourne, FL, and Tullahoma, TN where Mr. Rickard was an engineer in aerospace electronics engineering, having his doctorate in that field. They moved to Henderson in 1984 after John’s retirement and John work as an engineer in the radio station, taught mathematics, physics, Ham Radio and was a guest lecturer in chemistry, all at Freed-Hardeman University.
Mrs. Rickard was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ and involved with the Freed-Hardeman Associates while living in Henderson.
They moved to Colorado Springs in 2004 to make their home near their children. Mrs. Rickard was a member of the Tri-Lakes Church of Christ in Monument, CO.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, John R. Rickard of Colorado Springs, a son; Dr. Terry Rickard and wife Lois of Larkspur, CO, a daughter; Gail Brook and husband Freddie of Woodland Park, CO, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, a sister Jane Miller of Henderson and two brothers; Joe Williams or Northport, AL and Jacks Williams of Brownsville, TN. She was preceded in death by a brother David Williams.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Friday at the Henderson Church of Christ with Dr. Terry Rickard and Ben Flatt officiating and burial will follow at the Henderson City Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel in charge of arrangements.
