Henderson: Bettye Jo Cupples Carnell, age 72, died Saturday evening June 24, 2017 at her home at Heritage Towers.

She was born at Huntersville in Madison County and grew up near Pinson, the daughter of the late Luther Marvin and Clara Delois Smith Cupples. She graduated from South Side High School in 1963 and married Robert Carnell in 1964. They made their home at Henderson. She worked a few years at Salant & Salant and Chester County Sportswear. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking. She was a ‘people’ person and a ‘talker’. She was a member of A New Beginning Church.

She is survived by a son Joey Carnell and wife Debbie and a daughter Rita Jones and husband Larry all of Henderson, a brother Wayne Cupples of Pinson, and two sisters; Frances Newsom and husband Willie of Henderson and Winnie Robertson and husband William of McKenzie, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at Shackelford – Casey Chapel with Ken Kitchen, Jim Newsom, and Teri Stansell officiating. Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery at Jacks Creek.

The family will receive friends at Shackelford - Casey Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday.
