Billy Roy Beckham departed this life on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the age of 85 years and 2 days. He was born in Wayne County, Tennessee on September 24, 1935, the son of the late Alvin and Ima Elizabeth Beckham. On July 21, 1956, he was united in marriage to his beloved Mary Elizabeth Beckham. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2016.
Billy Roy lived in Chicago, IL for over 42 years and retired from Western Electric after working there for 30 years. He and his wife Lib also owned an Amoco Service Station and Beckham Enterprises Trucking, Inc. during 20 of their years in Chicago. Billy Roy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Houston Missionary Baptist Church.
Billy Roy is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Ruiz and her husband, Ignacio of Detroit, MI; granddaughters, Elizabeth Ruiz and Olivia Ruiz; brother, Glen Beckham of Collinwood, TN; three sisters, Betty Jean Sherrill and husband Will of Waynesboro, TN, Kathryn Dement of Olive Hill,
TN, Shirley Robinson and husband Doyle of Gallatin, TN, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Billy Roy was preceded in death by his sons, Roy Howard Beckham and Billy Ray Beckham; and his brother Alvin Beckham, Jr.
The family would like to thank the director, nurses, and staff at Boyd Cottages Assisted Living for the years of wonderful care and friendship that the entire staff gave to Billy, and Kim we are so grateful that you were there to look after Dad. You are all definitely extended family and
brought so much joy into his life. They would also like to thank Dr. Joe Hall, niece, Donna Castell, and the entire staff at Hall Medical Clinic for the care that Billy received from them for many years. The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the family and
friends who gave so much of their time to care for and love Dad, especially Aunt Betty, Jimmy, and Pat. A special thank you to Nathan for the extra love and care you gave Dad. All the love and support of family and friends is so appreciated.
