Carolyn Russ Waters, born August 19, 1913 in Clifton, Tennessee died peacefully on June 11, 2015. During a life that spanned almost 102 years, she drove a car when she was eight years old and loved driving a car ever since. She went to dances on a showboat on the Tennessee River, taught in a one-room school and was a fixture at Peoples Bank of Clifton. She was a faithful member of Clifton United Methodist Church and Forest Hills United Methodist Church in Nashville. She was a woman of amazing strength, courage and compassion and she was the center of our family universe.
She was preceded in death by her parents,Watt N. and Cordie H. Russ, her brother, John G. Russ, her son, Jimmie Russ Waters, her husband of 46 years, Thomas Norman Waters; grandsons, Thomas Russ Davidson and Tommy Brown and great-grandson Lynn Brown. She is survived by her daughters, Norma Sue Bouldin, Ann (Teddie) Overton, Betty (John) Lee, Linda Waters (Jim Van Dusen) and Sybil (Eddie) Stewart; grandchildren, Suzanne Brown, Amy Sawyer, Jana (Mike) Haughey, Doug (Regina) Davidson, Wileda Hammack, Nadarai Kimball, Sissy Overton, April (Jay) Kelley, Shannon (Eric) Froese, Brian (Colleen) Lee, Elizabeth (Frankie) DeJesus and Emily Stewart; 16 great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, one great-great-great grandchild and the friends and extended family she loved so much.
The family will welcome visitors on Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Tennessee. A service celebrating her long and rich life will be held at the United Methodist Church in Clifton on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation at 12 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Nashville Rescue Mission, Room in the Inn in Nashville or The Cancer Fund at Wayne County Bank in Waynesboro.
