CAROLYN WHALEY
Henderson, TN: Carolyn Johnson Whaley age 85 passed away September 26, 2014.
She was born June 12, 1929 in Martin, TN daughter of the late H. Dee and Annie Kathryn Scates Johnson. She was a graduate of Martin High School and attended U.T. Junior College (now UT Martin).
She was married to H.F. ‘Woodie’ Whaley in 1950 and they lived in Martin until 1965 when they purchased the Chester County Independent and moved to Henderson. Mr. Whaley died in 1975 and she continued to serve as editor and publisher of the Independent until retiring in 1992.
She was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Cathryn Mashburn; an older sister, Marion Crouch, and a brother, Harold Dee Johnson.
Survivors include a daughter, Dee Ann Potts and husband Rick of Jacks Creek; a son, Scott Whaley and wife, Lisa, of Henderson; four grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Whaley, Anna Whaley, Alexandra Potts and Andrew Potts; two special adopted grandchildren, Ashley Davis and Adam Davis, both of Nashville; and a great grandson, Ari Davis; and a great granddaughter, Ava Kathryn Whaley.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Billy Smith and Rick Rickard officiating and burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers to serve will be, James Webb, Garry Carroll, Mike Bolton, John Mark Johnson, Rick Crouch, and Stan Johnson.
