Cecil C. Butler, 85 of Florence, AL formerly of Waynesboro was born May 15, 1929 in Wayne County, TN the son of the late Jessie Clyde and Lola Louann Butler. Mr. Butler died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. Mr. Butler joined the Army in 1952 and was discharged in 1953 achieving the rank of corporal. Most of that time he served in the Korean War serving in Company A, 440th signal and construction battallion.
He was an employee of Genesco, an EMT at Wayne County Ambulance Service, and was a self employed builder. Mr. Butler was active in his community serving in various organizations including Woodmen of the World, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and a faithful member at Green River Baptist Church. He was married to Joyce Dixon November 11, 1955.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Dixon Butler, son, Jeffrey Cecil Butler (Melonie) , daughter, Beverly Joyce Brewer (Eddie) all of Florence, grandchildren, Brian Brewer, Jennifer Brewer, Katie Butler, and Jesse Butler.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Butler was preceded in death by brothers, Freeman, Frank, George, and Louis Butler.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Green River Baptist Church in Waynesboro with Cal Hampton officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Collinwood Memorial Gardens with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be 6:00 PM until 8:30 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Brian Brewer, Jesse Butler, Danny Brison, Ricky Butler, Randy Butler, and Dwayne Gable.
