Charlie D Pipes was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on February 14, 1930, the son of the late Herman and Mary Ann Davison Pipes.
On December 25, 1950, he was united in marriage to Marlene Wyatt, who survives. Charlie, or Tinker as most people knew him, was a ferry boat operator. He worked the Hardin County Ferry Boat for 27 years. Charlie was also a commercial fisherman, loved to hunt, gardening, and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church.
Charlie (Tinker) departed this life on Friday, January 3, 2014, at the age of 83 years, 10 months, 20 days.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marlene Wyatt Pipes; daughters, Sandra Anderson, and Janet Oxley and husband Bo; grandchildren, Jennifer Durbin and husband Wesley, Philip "Bump" Oxley, and LeeAnn Shelton; great grandchildren, Shelby Durbin, Carter Durbin, Charlize Shelton, Wyatt Shelton, and Gracie Oxley; sister, June Davidson all of Savannah, Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, James Kenneth and Joel Wayne Pipes; grandchild, Fonstanda Lynn Oxley; sisters, Allie Jones, Lantie Alexander, Wilma Dildine, and Bonnie Caldwell; brothers, Melvin Pipes and Herman "Tom" Pipes.
