Charlie Garner (Mutt) Whitten of Cypress Inn, TN was born June 4, 1927 in Wayne Co., TN, the son of the late Charlie Robert and Josie Belle Daniel Whitten. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Lucille on September 7, 1945 and she preceded him in death on August 20, 2012.
Mr. Whitten was a retired from Reynolds Aluminum and was a farmer andMr. Whitten departed this life on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama at the age of 87 Years, 3 Months, 15 Days.
He is survived by a daughter, Bettye Regina Ethridge and husband, Rick of Florence, AL; sons, Jerry Wayne Whitten and wife, Brenda, Michael Wade Whitten and wife, Susan and Randy Keith Whitten and wife, Marsha all of Cypress Inn, TN; grandchildren, Timothy L Whitten and wife, Kim, Christopher Lee and wife, Alicia Whitten, Chad Wesley Whitten, Adam Ryan Whitten and wife, Jessica, Melissa Ann Whitten and Kelly Rebecca (Whitten) Britnell and husband, Kenley; great-grandchildren; David B., Blake R., Daniel, Adley Bea, and Maximus Ryan Whitten; a brother, Charles Edward (Jeff) Whitten of Iron City, TN; a sister, Elsie (Snookum) Berry of Waynesboro, TN; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Whitten was preceded in death by sons, Terry Lane Whitten and an infant son; a brother, Bobby Gene Whitten; sisters, Evelyn Dickey and Ellen (Biggun) Whitten.
Services will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee, with John Allen Berry officiating. Burial will follow in the Railroad Cemetery, Iron City, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Tim, Chris, Chad, Adam, Robert Earl and Johnny Whitten, Neil Dickey and Larry Staggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Staggs, Elzo Smith and Kenley Britnell.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 6 pm to 9 pm and Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 11 am to service time at the funeral home.
