CLEATUS E. WHITMAN
Henderson, TN: Cleatus Edward Whitman age 93 passed away December 16, 2014 at the Henderson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Whitman was born March 17, 1921 in the Montezuma community of Chester County, the son of the late Nathan Edd and Maudie Mosier Whitman.
He served in the U.S. Army, 77th Infantry, Company D, 302nd Medical Battalion during WWII, serving in the Philippians and received a Bronze Star while serving in the Diversion Invasion of Guam.
He was a laborer in the construction business all of his working career, working for Lloyd A. Fry Roofing Company and also was later self-employed. He married Ethel (Vickie) Bradsher and they made their home in Memphis. She preceded in death in 1977. He had made his home with his longtime companion, Ivy Nell Rankin since the late ‘70’s. He was a member of the Cave Springs Baptist Church.
Mr. Whitman is survived by a son, Edward Cleatus Whitman and his wife Debbie of Memphis and a daughter, Joyce Ann McBee and husband Larry of Memphis; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; a brother, S.L. Whitman of Lexington and two sisters, Ruby Horn and Betty Ricketts both of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel (Vickie) Bradsher Whitman in 1977, two sisters, Gladys Fry and Myrtle Whitman and three brothers, Floyd Whitman, J.D. Whitman and Herbert Whitman.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Larry McBee officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Cave Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel beginning at 11:00 AM Thursday.
