David Earl Plunk, Sr.
David Earl Plunk, Sr. of Finger, Tennessee was born on July 13, 1949 and raised on a farm in Finger, Tennessee. He married Lorene (Lampton) Plunk in 1995. A million-miler postal service worker, David retired after 29 years of service as a rural carrier for Henderson, Tennessee. He was a member of Encounter Community Fellowship Church in Finger, Tennessee. He enjoyed fishing, playing gospel music, and spending time with kids, grandkids, family and friends. A favorite storyteller of many, he delighted in recounting treasured memories and local tales with his unique flair and humor. Once retired, David and Lorene traveled all over the country and also enjoyed the sights of Mexico and Canada. They found new friendships spending some winters in Mesa, Arizona.
He is survived by sons, David Plunk, Jr. and wife, Griselda of Bethel Springs, Tennessee, Travis Plunk and wife, Courtney of Finger, Tennessee and daughters, Monette Wilson of Middleton, Tennessee, Cheryl Smart and husband, Gary of Germantown, Tennessee and Christy Wilson of Adamsville, Tennessee, grandchildren, Kevin Rivera, Justin Plunk, Victoria Plunk, Tyler Plunk, Ethan Plunk, Mason Plunk, Mitch Agee, Jesse Agee, Zach Smart, Lindsay Smart, Serena Norton, Tristan Smith and nine great-grandchildren, a host of beloved nieces and nephews, a brother, Henry Plunk and wife, Phyllis of Jacksonville, Arkansas, sisters, Allie Henry and husband, Dennis of Bethel Springs, Tennessee, Mary Jane Plunk of Jackson, Tennessee, Minnie Davis and husband, Larry of Henderson, Tennessee, Dorothy Redden and husband, Mike of Henderson, Tennessee, Blondell Powers and husband, Virgil of Southaven, Mississippi, and special sisters-in-law, Brenda Plunk and Chris Plunk.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Howard Plunk and mother, Bonnie Lee Wright, four brothers, DeWayne Plunk of Crossville, Tennessee, Buford Plunk of Oakland, Tennessee, Isaac Plunk of Finger, Tennessee, M.E. Plunk of Finger, Tennessee, and one sister, Laverne Watson of Nashville, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Ken Kitchen officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday.
