Doyle Murphy

Doyle Murphy, age 68, Athletic Director at Chester County High School, died Saturday morning at Alive Hospice of Nashville.
Mr. Murphy was born in Wynne, Arkansas, the son of the late James Cecil and Eva Irene Moore Murphy. He grew up in the Milledgeville area and graduated from Adamsville High School in 1968 and U.T. Martin in 1972. He married Marilyn Kolwyck in 1972 and began his teaching and coaching career in Hardin County as they made their home at Adamsville. He began employment with the Chester County School system in 1984, making his home at Jacks Creek since 1987. He taught history at the high school, coached girls basketball and softball and had also coached boy’s junior high basketball. He became athletic director in 2000 and was currently serving in that position. He served as honorary chairman for the Chester County Relay for Life in 2017. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church.
He dedicated his entire life to lifting others up and making things better for those around him. He loved young people and believed everyone had the opportunity to do something great with his or her life. There are countless individuals who count him as a key mentor and adviser.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Kolwyck Murphy of Henderson, a daughter Amy Murphy Curlis and husband Shawn of Charlotte, NC, a son Wes Murphy and wife Kim of Henderson, two grandchildren; Elam Murphy and Erby Anne Murphy, a brother Bobby Murphy of Bethel Springs, and a sister Jearlean McKenzie of Scotts Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother James ‘Buddy” Murphy and two infant sisters; Lila Dean Murphy and Patsy Jane Murphy.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Monday at Unity Baptist Church at Jacks Creek with Dr. James Huggins and Dr. Ricky Catlett officiating. Burial will follow in the Unity Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford Funeral Directors, Crook Avenue from 3 PM until 9 PM Sunday and Monday morning from 8 AM until 11 AM at the funeral home and from 12 noon until 1 PM at the church.
