Drew Rowland
Henderson: Drew Allison Rowland, age 90, died Saturday evening April 12, 2014 at his home in the Palestine Community of Chester County.
Mr. Rowland was born and reared in Chester County, the Palestine Community, the son of the late Thomas Newton and Annie Ethel Allison Rowland. He went to school at Engle School and in 1943 entered the U. S. Army and served in the 124th Horse Calvary in the Asiatic- Pacific Theater, the last horse unit of WWII, and served in China and Burma India.
He married Jessie Lee Garner of the Hickory Corner Community in 1947 and they made their home in the Palestine Community where they farmed and raised a family. He farmed all his life in the Palestine Community and worked a few years in the early 1970's at Western State Health Institute and also worked eight years at the Cave Springs Waste Management Collection Center. He served eight years on the Chester County Board of Education.
He was a member of the Palestine Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the deacons.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years; Jessie Lee Garner Rowland, three sons; Rickey Rowland and wife Pat of Henderson, Gary Rowland and wife Sharon of Henderson, Anthony Rowland and wife Vickie of Bethel Springs, two daughters; Linda Dianne Reaves and husband Clifton of Henderson and Pamela Summers and husband Kendall of Ramer, two sisters; Joyce Whitman of Selmer and Reba Cupples of Henderson, thirteen grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by four brothers; Curtis, Romas, Marvin, and Burl and three sisters; Clara Arnold, Ruth Tolbert, and Margaret Capps, and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday at Palestine Baptist Church with Anthony Rowland and Skippy Rowland. Burial will follow with Military Honors in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford Funeral Directors Casey Chapel beginning at 5:00 PM Monday.
