Earnest Calvin Bevis made his entrance into his heavenly home on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 1 day. He was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on March 21, 1927, the son of the late George Jackson and Sarah Emaline Benson Bevis. On May 15, 1948, he was united in marriage to Thelma Lee Lard.
Earnest loved living the farm life and everything associated with it including: gardening, fishing, hunting, swimming in the creek, and raising cattle, horses, and mules. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially while sitting on the front porch in his rocking chair. Earnest enjoyed working with numerous people at Savannah Manufacturing and Kay Windsor. He was known as the family jokester. Because of his failing health, he was unable to attend church in his later years, but he always looked forward to the faithful people that brought church to him at home on Saturdays. Earnest also enjoyed watching the local Christian channel 18.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Thelma Lard Bevis and three children, Linda Bevis Cooler and husband, Allen, James Carl Bevis and wife, Donna, and Charles Bevis and wife, Lisa; grandchildren Tammy Cummings Thomas and husband, Kevin, Jeff Cummings and wife, Jane Anna, Miriam Bevis Farris and husband, Chris, Zach Bevis and wife, Abbey, Casey Bevis and wife, Holly. 12 great-grandchildren, Cydney, Megan, Natalie and Cameron Thomas, Carson and Ryder Cummings, Clara, Audrianna and Enoch Farris, Caroline Bevis and James Wyatt Bevis (Due in November) and Avery and Griffin Bevis. He is survived by two sisters, Molly Word and Hazel Holloway and one brother, Gene Bevis. Several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jeremy Carl Bevis and Celestial Dawn Bevis; sisters, Effie Stricklin, Delois Bevis, Elsie Franks, and Delsie Holcombe and brothers, Clarence Bevis and Walter Bevis.
