Elizabeth Harris Alpha, age 96 years, died in New Orleans, Louisiana on Friday April 24, 2015.
She was born in Henderson, Tennessee to the late Jesse Harris and Alice Brown Harris. Elizabeth attended Chester County Schools as well as Freed-Hardeman, Memphis State, and Union University. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She kept books for her father’s businesses in Henderson, worked at the Arsenal in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and the atomic plant in Oak Ridge during WWII, and was an employment counselor in Forrest City for the state of Arkansas for many years.
Elizabeth married the late Harold Marvin Alpha in 1943 at Sheridan, Arkansas. Harold was from Adams, North Dakota and a flight instructor at Pine Bluff. She and Harold moved to New Orleans in 1996. Elizabeth leaves a daughter, Jane Alpha Hicks and son-in-law, Robert Hicks of New Orleans; and a granddaughter, Alice Hicks Brown, grandson-in-law, Robert E. Brown, and great grandsons, Riley Alexander and Dexter Jesse Brown all of Grantham, England.
Elizabeth had been in declining health for the past several years. She will be poorly missed by family, attending nursing staff in New Orleans, and friends and co-workers in the Memphis Area.
Graveside services will be held at 11am on Thursday April 30th in the Henderson City Cemetery.
