Favil Travis Meek was born June 7, 1923 in McNairy County, TN the son of the late Joel Gillus and Annie Laura Moore Meek.
He was united in marriage to Ima Racine Smelser on May 31, 1942. Mrs. Meek preceded him in death on June 18, 2013, following 71 years of marriage.
Mr. Meek was a graduate of Michie High School. As a youth, he was a charter member of the Mt. Vinson Bicycle Club. During World War II, he was a heavy artillery gun crewman in the United States Army, serving in Northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Mr. Meek worked as a hand sewer for Brown Shoe Company in Selmer for 15 years. He retired from General Electric after 17 years of service as a punch press operator, and also worked as a farmer. In his spare time, Mr. Meek enjoyed fishing with his grandson and great-grandson, gardening, and traveling all over the United States and Canada with Senior tour groups. He was a faithful member of the Adamsville church of Christ, where he served as an Elder for 17 years.
Mr. Meek departed this life on June 12, 2015 in Adamsville, Tennessee at the age of 92 Years, 5 Days. He is survived by two daughters, Ann Mitchell and Jane Russell and husband Larry, all of Stantonville, TN; two sons, Nathan Meek and wife Delores of Selmer, TN and Dickie Meek and wife Janice of Adamsville, TN; eleven grandchildren: Nikke Shilling and husband Jim, Anita (Meek) Stevens, Casey Meek, Dwain Meek and wife Golden, Joel Gray and wife Ashley, Drew Mitchell and wife Carrie, Angelyn (Mitchell) Zimmerman, Wendy Ashe and husband Wayne, Daniel Russell and wife Amie, David Russell and wife Whitney, and Chastity Clay and husband Tommy; 21 great-grandchildren: Abbey, Ansley, and Jay Shilling, Jessica and Megan Stevens, Allen Meek, Aspen, Mallorie, and Ian Gray, Peyton, Chesney, and Katelyn Mitchell, Declan and Bronx Zimmerman, Grady and Grant Ashe, Gianna Russell, Tennyson and Annelise Russell, Rylee and Brody Clay; four sisters: Lavada (Meek) Phillips of Adamsville, TN, Virginia (Meek) Cody of Memphis, TN, Aurellia (Meek) Cody of Stantonville, TN, and Treva (Meek) Glidewell of Adamsville, TN; a daughter-in-law, Martha Meek Tyler and husband Dwight; and many more extended family and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Meek was preceded in death by a son, F. Allen Meek, and a sister, Ilene (Meek) Garrison.
