FLODINE FLATT POWELL
Henderson, TN: Lowa Flodine Flatt Powell age 89 passed away Wednesday morning June 14, 2017 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
She was born September 28, 1927 in Benton, IL, the daughter of the late Doctor Claude and Rhoda Connor Flatt. She graduated high school in Benton, IL and attended Freed-Hardeman College for one year. She married James Renford ‘Jimmy’ Powell in 1945. They made their home at Hamilton, AL, Fulton, MS, Huntingdon, TN, Millport, AL and Columbus, MS where Mr. Powell preached for the churches of Christ. Mrs. Powell was a homemaker before the children started to school and then was secretary to the Dean of Students at the Mississippi College for Women in Columbus, MS and later worked at the Social Security Office in Columbus, MS where she retired after twenty-five years. Mr. Powell died in 1995.
Mrs. Powell moved to Henderson in 1998 to make her home near her daughter. She was very involved in the Freed Hardeman Associates. She loved to follow the Freed-Hardeman Lions and Lady Lions Basketball. She was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ, Henderson FCE Club, Bon Tres Club and was active with the Senior Citizens group at church.
Mrs. Powell is survived by a daughter, Spring McCutchen and husband Mike of Henderson; two sons, Jim Powell, Jr. and wife Diane of Memphis and Dan Powell and wife Linda of Jackson, MS; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren and one brother, Curtis Flatt of Birmingham, AL.
Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at the Old Union Cemetery at Carrollton, MS. There will be no local visitation.
