Fred Ray Atwood, Sr. was born in Korbin, Kentucky on November 25, 1933. He lived in Everts, Kentucky where he went to school until July 16, 1951 when he enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 17. He served in the Air Force until July 3,1954, as a Medical Service Supervisor. While in service he received the National Defense Service Medal and retained rank of Airman 3rd Class. After his military service, Fred met the love of his life, Manda Jo Baugus and was married October 15, 1955, on her birthday of course.
Fred has four children, Donna Miller of Indiana, Diane Williams of Indiana, Fred R. Atwood, Jr. of Adamsville, Tennessee, and Dee Ann Atwood of Savannah, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren.
Fred retired from the Board of Education as a janitor. During his time with the school system he was known as Mr. Fred. He watched and helped a lot of kids from the time they were in grade school to graduation...he watched them grow up. Kids, teachers and staff will remember and miss Mr. Fred.
I'd like to say thank you to one special person in my life, Beverly J. Dotson, my fiancé. Without you and the endless effort and help from you, picking me up when I was down I could not have taken care of my father the way I did. Dad loved you like his daughter as he told you many times. Again, thank you and I love you.
Freddie Atwood, Jr.
