Freddy June Bromley Staggs

Mrs. Freddy June Bromley Staggs, 87, passed away on December 24, 2014 at Wayne County Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a resident of 1011 Tie Camp Road, Waynesboro, TN. Mrs. Staggs was born on June 5, 1927 in the Martin’s Mills Community in Wayne County, Tennessee to the late Jasper Fred and Mary Smyth Bromley. She moved with her family to the 48 Creek Community at an early age. She was educated in the Wayne County School System and a graduate of Wayne County High School where she lettered in basketball. She taught school throughout Wayne County in many country schools after high school graduation. She was retired from P.R. Mallory and the Wayne County School System from the Waynesboro Middle School and Elementary School cafeteria. Her greatest professional and personal achievement was that of a homemaker. She was a long-time member of Highland United Methodist Church. She was married to her late husband, Mr. Lonnie Staggs, on February 8, 1944. They were married for 63 years at the time of his death on August 23, 2009.

Mrs. Staggs is survived by three children: Mrs. Teresa Gail Staggs Wilson, Chapel Hill, TN; Ms. Myra Beth Staggs, Waynesboro, TN; Mr. Gerald Lee Staggs, Waynesboro, TN; two grandchildren: Mr. Michael Thomas Wilson, Nashville, TN; Mrs. Ashlyn Lee Staggs Bailey and husband Mr. Mike Bailey, Waynesboro, TN; one great granddaughter; Miss Kinsley Ann Bailey, Waynesboro, TN; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Nell Bromley Hodges, Hernando, MS. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Staggs was also preceded in death by her son-in –law: Mr. Philip Edwards Wilson; brother: Mr. J.N. Bromley; sisters: Mrs. Virginia Smith, Mrs. Hazel Cothran, Mrs. Helen Smith and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 1p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home in Waynesboro, TN with Bro. Ray Watkins officiating. Mrs. Staggs will be laid to rest at Highland United Methodist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers include Mr. Bryce Long, Mr. Dan Long, Mr. Grady Smith, Mr. Hugh Smith, Mr. Tom Smith, Mr. Ty Hodges, Mr. Roy Staggs and Mr. Michael Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers include Mr. Floyd “Babe” Staggs, Mr. Steve Staggs, Mr. Jack Cothran, Mr. Joe Cothran, Mr. Sam Cothran and Mr. Carl Smith.
