Gathel Holmes Butler Latham
Mrs. Gathel Butler Latham, “Mammaw Butler” , 96, died July 18, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 21, 1921, in the Middlefork Community to the late Jim and Rosie Holmes. Mammaw was blessed to have two loves in her lifetime. She married Guy Butler on December 26, 1937. For over 50 years, they made their home in Mifflin until Mr. Butler’s death in 1988. She later married James Latham on June 15, 1990. They enjoyed their time together until Mr. Latham’s death in 1991. She continued to make her home in Mifflin until November 2016 when she moved to Jackson with her daughter. She was a long-time member of Mifflin Baptist Church.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a homemaker who took pride in baking for everyone. She was especially known for her Carmel cakes and pies. She took pride in the small garden she was able to grow each year. She loved canning and making jellies for others.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Jimmy) Stanford of Jackson, TN, Nell (Late Ray) Waller of Orland Park, IL and son-in-law Bobby Collins of Florence, AL. Her grandchildren are Danny Waller, Kathy Hoffman, Carol Waller, Tommy Waller, Debbie Kollman, Tammy Rhodes, Angela Moody, Allison Lewis, Guy Collins, and Ginger Kemp. She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother Sid Holmes, Sister Zettie Ryals, and her daughter Carrie Neal Collins.
The family would like to thank the many friends and family that have been a huge support during this time. We would also like to thank Hospice of West Tennessee, Sarah McLemore, and Kerry Sellers for their great care given to Mammaw.
Visitation will be from 10 to 2 at Mifflin Baptist Church with funeral following at 2:00 PM Friday, July 21, 2017 at the church. Burial will follow in the Mifflin Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials to be made to Hospice of West Tennessee or Mifflin Baptist Church.
Pallbearers to serve are Dwayne Williams, Don McLemore, Kerry Sellers, Jeff Butler, Jackie Butler, and Pat Connor. Honorary Pallbearers are Adam Moody, DJ Holden and Will Kemp.
Pastors officiating the service will be Rev. Larry Blankenship and Dr. Edgar Pierce.
