George Douglas Duren

George Douglas Duren, 87, of Crump, departed this life at the Hardin Medical Center on Thursday, February 5, 2015.

He was born in Hardin County on January 10, 1928, the son of the late George and Ruby Perkins Duren. Mr. Duren retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he served as Postmaster of Crump, Tennessee for over 27 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from January 24, 1952 until December 24, 1953. He also worked as a barber in both Memphis, Tennessee, and Savannah, Tennessee, as well as working for Brown Shoe Company in Savannah, Tennessee.

He was a member of the Crump United Methodist Church where he served as a church official. He also served as an Alderman for the City of Crump.

Mr. Duren is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margie Carter Duren. Two sons: Keith Douglas Duren and his wife Phoebe, and Charles Duren and his wife Rhonda. One brother, Jim Duren. Five grandchildren: April Hunt, Shawn Duren, Tandy Olmstead, Chasity Davis, and Matthew Duren. Five great-grandchildren: Lane-Adam Hunt, Katie Lynn Davis, Jack Davis, Hannah Olmstead, and William Douglas Duren.
