Gladys Shearon Porter

Gladys Shearon Porter went to her heavenly reward on the evening of August 30, 2017at Pine Meadows Health & Rehabilitation Center in Bolivar, TN.

She was the firstborn child of Joe Nelson Shearon and Daisy Belle Keller Shearon. She was born on August 29, 1922 in Hardeman County and lived here for most of her life, having lived in Chester County for a brief period.

She married James Elton (Bob) Chandler on March 20, 1948 in Madison County, TN. Mr. Chandler was killed in an auto accident on August 5, 1963. She later married George David (Bo) Porter on August 19, 1968 in Madison County, TN. Mr. Porter passed from this life on October 17, 2002.

Mrs. Porter worked as a Psychiatric Technician at Western Mental Health Institute from 1963 until the time of her retirement in 1985. She was an avid gardener, loving her flowers and raising her vegetables and received enormous satisfaction from decorating and tending her home and cooking for her family. She was a member of Parran’s Chapel Baptist Church prior to moving to the Rogers Springs area and uniting with Rocky Springs Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter-in-law, Diane McDonald Durham of Middleton and a sister Laura Dee Shearon Baker (Wilbur) of Bolivar, as well as two nieces, Karen Baker Moore (Glen) and Tracy Shearon Byrum of Bolivar; 2 nephews A. J. Sain (Melana) of Memphis, and Mike Baker (Cindy) of Bolivar. She also leaves eight grand-nieces, Carly, Shearon and Brook Lyn Sain, Anna Lynn Byrum, Brianna Moore and Chasity, Faith and Georgia Baker, four grand-nephews, Jeremy Oaks, Bryan Moore (Christina), Shea Byrum and Jake Baker, one great-grandniece Ava Moore and numerous extended family members, friends and loved ones who admired her strength and faith in her Lord.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her only child, a son, Terry E. Chandler, a sister Jo Nell Shearon Sain, a brother, Herman Keller (Bud) Shearon, a sister-in-law, Jo Ann Pharr Shearon, a brother-in-law, Arnold J. Sain and a niece, Wanda Jo Sain Oaks.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Rocky Springs Baptist Church Building Fund or the charity of donor’s choice.
