Hayman Lee Humes, age 69 of Saulsbury, Tennessee passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at his home.
Hayman was born in Memphis, Tennessee July 26, 1944 to the late Earl Hayman Humes and Una Lee Hudson Humes. He lived most of his life in the Memphis area prior to moving to Hardeman County 12 years ago.
Hayman Lee, as he was known by family, should have graduated from high school in 1963. However, after deciding to ride his motorcycle down through the school hallway, he was expelled, but returned and graduated from Westside High School in 1965. He has maintained many of his high school friendships throughout the years.
Hayman and "Babs" were high school sweethearts but after graduation went their separate ways only to be reunited 37 years later and united in marriage September 26, 2001.
He spent many years on the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers as a riverboat pilot and then drove a truck for approximately 35 years until a few months before his death. Hayman Lee also drove stock cars at Lakeland, TN and West Memphis, AR and raced sprint cars. He was an AVID sports fan. His favorite baseball team was the Atlanta Braves.
He served as the President of the Candlewood Lakes Property Owners Association for several years and attended Rocky Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by a granddaughter, Rebecca Lane Rupprecht that lives in the home, three daughters, Amber Cork (Carlos) of Memphis, Tennessee, Heather Humes of Texarkana, Texas and Angel Smith (Jeremy) of Memphis; a stepson, John Rupprecht of Saulsbury; three stepdaughters, Jennifer Collomp (Jeff) of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Jeana Reeves (Steve) of Williston, and Kelly Watson of Henderson; a brother, Earl Humes (Phyllis) of Orlando, Florida; a sister, Patsy Kirkley (Jim) of Claremore, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Clinton Hayman Humes.
