Ira Johnson was born March 12, 1923 in Lutts, TN, the son of the late Dave and Edna Hill Johnson. Mr. Johnson was united in marriage to Aubry Beatrice Collins on February 15, 1947.
Mr. Johnson, a U.S. Army veteran, served in World War II achieving the rank of Corporal. He held a lifetime membership in the Disabled American Veterans. He was retired from the City of Florence where he was employed in construction work for the utilities department.
Mr. Johnson departed this life on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Florence Nursing and Rehabilitation in Florence, Alabama at the age of 90 Years, 10 Months, 20 Days.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Johnson of Florence, AL; sons, William D. Johnson and wife, Connie of Waynesboro, TN and Steven Johnson and wife, Regina of Elkmont, AL; three grandchildren, Bradley and Scott Johnson and Natosha Parker; five great-grandchildren, Peyton, Mariah, and Logan Johnson and Nicholas and Austin Parker; a brother, D. A. Johnson of Section, AL and a sister, Margaret Adean Montgomery of Florence, AL; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by three brothers, Doyle, Ellis, and Grady Johnson and two sisters, Reba Young and Grace Cook.
Services will be Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee, with David Dowdy officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Memorial Gardens, Collinwood, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Bradley Johnson, Norman Johnson, Dewayne Johnson, Seth Parker, Clint Johnson, and Garland Knoch.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 5 pm to 8 pm and Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 9 am until service time at the funeral home.
