Ike Roland
Henderson: Isaac Nelms Roland, age 87, died Saturday morning July 15, 2017 at Jackson General Hospital.
Mr. Roland was born and reared in Henderson, the son of the late C. P. (Clifford Paul) and Grace Pearl Paysinger Roland. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1947, Freed-Hardeman College in 1949 and attended Union University until he joined the U. S Air Force. The Air Force sent him back to Union where he finished his degree in chemistry. He returned to the Air Force and served in Pusan during the Korean War where he was assigned to an A26 Aviator Bomber as a mechanic.
He married June Hardin in October 1955. They made their home in Jackson for fifty years where he and his brother Paul owned and operated Jackson Dairy Products and distributed Sealtest Milk all over West Tennessee and North Mississippi.
He earned his private flying license and had served as president of Skyways Flying Club in Jackson. He was a member of the Casey Jones Barbershop Course. The group sung at Casey Jones Village on Tuesday nights of each week. He was a former member of the Jackson Theatre Guild. He enjoyed fishing, flying, and barbershop singing. He was a former member of the Freed – Hardeman University Advisory Board and currently served on the Old Main Restoration Committee. He was an avid supporter of Freed-Hardeman University basketball.
He had served as an elder of the Campbell’s Street Church of Christ for thirty five years and had taught junior high Sunday school class, adult classes and served as song director as well. Since moving to Henderson in 2005, they were members of the Henderson Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife June Hardin Roland of Henderson, a son Richard Roland of Germantown, two daughters Anne Roland England of Sharpsburg, GA and Linda Roland Franklin of Dalton, GA, ten grandchildren, and a brother Charles Roland of Lexington, KY.
He was preceded in death by a sister Josephine Riddick and two brothers; Paul and Mack Roland.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Billy Smith, Ralph Gilmore, Paul Roland and Richard England officiating. Burial will be at the Henderson City Cemetery.
The family will received friends at Shackelford – Casey Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday.
