Iva Carolyn Wingate

March 21, 1923 — May 14, 2014

Iva Carolyn Clay Wingate of Lincoln Park, MI, was born March 21, 1923 in Olive Hill, TN, the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklyn and Lily Parker Griffith Clay. She was united in marriage to Forrest Eugene Wingate on April 14, 1943 and he preceded her in death on April 22, 1963.

Mrs. Wingate, a former resident of Olive Hill, TN, Ft. Benning, GA, and Wayne County, TN, was a homemaker and had worked as a waitress for eight years and in sales at Federals Department Store for 21 years. She was a member of the Good Shepard Catholic Church, VFW Auxillary, Lincoln Park Seniors, and Federals Department Store Southgate Girls Group.

Mrs. Wingate departed this life on May 14, 2014 while visiting in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 91 Years, 1 Month, 23 Days.

She is survived by a son, Ronald Eugene Wingate, Sr. of East Lansing, MI; a daughter, Barbara Jean Wingate Sissen of Mansfield, TX; gramdchildren, Jennifer, Rochelle, Ronald, John James IV, Jodi and Justin; great-grandchildren, Cody, Hayley, Ashton, Paiton, John James V, Jack, Joshua, Kensie, Sophia, Brooklyn, Cooper, Luke and Iva; great-great-grandchild, Asyria; a brother, James Clay of Allen Park, MI; Nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Wingate was preceded in death by a sister, Lena Clay McLin and brothers, Herbert, Hubert, Frank, Earl and Robert Clay.

Services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 1:00 PM at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Father Raymond Nwegede officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Collinwood, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County directing. Pallbearers will be Ron Wingate, Jr., John J. Sissen, Jr., Ashton Broussard, Keith Franks, Stevie Burns, Lucas Cutler, and Jimmy McLin. Visitation will be Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Shackelford Funeral Home, Waynesboro, TN. Her body will be placed in the church one hour before the services on Friday.
