James Arthur Hodum, age 75, of Pocahontas, passed away Tuesday morning, April 3, 2018 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born in Alcorn County, MS and spent all of his life in the Pocahontas area of Hardeman County. He was the son of the late Bert and Susie Mullins Hodum. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Wayne Gurley; four sisters, Verdie Carter, Elmer Darling, Mary Lou Casey and Dorothy Williams; and a brother, Robert Hodum.
Mr. Hodum worked at Armira Tannery in Bolivar prior to it's closing. He was a self-employed truck driver and also drove for Russell DeBerry and Skeeter Dorris. A member of the Essary Springs Baptist Church, he enjoyed yard work, gardening and tending to his horses in his leisure time.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Brenda Grantham Hodum of Pocahontas; his daughter, Tonya (Mike) Baker of Hornsby; a sister, Vadine Dillingham of Walnut, MS; his daughter-in-law, Amanda Gurley of Golden, MS; six grandchildren, Natasha, Brittney and Brian Baker and Andrea, Kristy and Wesley Gurley; and several nieces and nephews.
