James "Sonny" Record

SONNY RECORD

Henderson: James Harrison ‘ Sonny ‘ Record, age 86 passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 while in Gulf Shores, AL.

He was born and reared in Chester County, the Sweetlips Community. He was the son of the late Paul Jennings and Mattie Mae Harrison Record. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1951 and he entered the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was also in the Tennessee National Guard for four years. When he returned home he went to work for Dealers Transport in Memphis. He had been in the trucking business for 50 years and established Record Truck Lines, AM&M Incorporated and then Cotton Express. He had operated as many as 150 trucks at one time.

He served as Mayor of the City of Henderson for two terms in the 1960’s. While Mayor he developed the Magic Valley Industrial Park and was instrumental in locating Grinnell Corporation and Sonco Products into the industrial park. He was Baptist in belief.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Wood Record; two sons; Jimmy Record and Dennis Record and daughter, Tonya White (Josh) all of Henderson, two stepsons; Jeff Hunley of Union Point, GA and Kevin Hunley (Kim) of Humboldt and a step daughter; Kristy Frazier (Frank) of Nashville; seven grandchildren, James Robert Record, Jason Ray Record (Brittany), Colby Lee Stout (Colleen), Kelsey B. Maness, Franklin D. Frazier, II, Natalie Lynn Frazier and Sawyer E. Hunley; three great grandchildren, Jason Ray Record, Jr., Hayden M. Stout and Harrison Wayne Record; one nephew, Ramond Melton (Carol) of Peoria, AZ and one niece, Tammy Record Seaton of Henderson.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; Gene Record and Max Ray Record and a sister, Pauline Record.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, September 28, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Henderson with Dr. James Huggins officiating. Burial will follow in the Henderson City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association or Gene Record Park.
