Jerry Lynn Rich passed away at ECM in Florence, AL on Wednesday, August 7, 2014 at the age of 66. Mr. Rich is survived by his brother, Phillip Rich (Marty), nieces, Sherri McKinney (caregiver), Phyllis Ann Driskill, Mary Jean Inman and nephews, Mark, Jim and Chris Staggs, and Charles "Butch" McKinney.
Jerry was born August 19, 1947 in Florence, AL. He was stricken with polio in 1953. Despite being a quadriplegic, he lived a life full of accomplishments. He graduated valedictorian from Central High School in 1966. He received his BS in psychology and a master's degree in finance from the University of Alabama. He worked as a geriatric counselor at Bryce Hospital for 22 years.
Love and compassion came easy for Jerry. His home was a welcome shelter to a menagerie of animals and pets. He was a Christian and of Baptist faith. He was an avid fan of Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He was able to share his creative talents with many through his leather and jewelry making, using his hands to expertly tool the leather and design pieces treasured by all of his family and many friends.
Jerry was blessed with loving parents that cared for him daily until their passing. They taught him to never let his handicap keep him from obtaining his goals. They encouraged him in all of his endeavors.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 10, 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, Cypress Inn, Tennessee.
