Henderson, TN: James Finis Cartwright age 81 passed away March 28, 2018 at his home.
James Finis Cartwright was born to Catherine Ardenia Sanders Cartwright, daughter of Isom Russell and Mary Sanders, and Finis James Cartwright, son of Gaither and Daisy Cartwright on August 24, 1936 in Saulsbury, TN.
Jim married Vala Mae Garrett, daughter of Cora and George Garrett on June 30, 1957 at Berclair church of Christ in Memphis, TN. They had two children, Trina Cartwright Peery, married to Patrick Alan Peery, and James Russell Cartwright, married to Sherry Denise Herring and a foster son, Daryl Lex Christian. They had six grandchildren; James Douglas Peery engaged to Hailey Morgan Hunt, Gordon Russell Cartwright, Garrett Catherine-Marie Peery, Corey Heath Cartwright married to Jessie Pyland Cartwright, Alana Peery and Reese Edward Cartwright.
He had two sisters, Mary Irene Martin Blocker, married to Billy Blocker and Alice Marie Cartwright Dennis, married to Mike, one niece, Nikki Deanne Blocker Tye, married to Ashley, and two nephews, Justin Martin Blocker, married to Joanie and Eric Dennis.
Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army and worked as a linoleum mechanic for most of his adult life at Kenny’s Floor Covering. He was handy and could fix just about anything. He was a faithful member of the Henderson church of Christ.
He loved God, his family, animals, country music, Tennessee Vols, St. Louis Cardinals and riding motorcycles. He valued education, hard work, honesty, courage, loyalty and integrity. He enjoyed photography, gardening, sports and British murder mysteries. He loved animals and had dogs named Skipper, Snoopy, T.C. and Josh.
Jim was quiet but made deep and lasting friendships. He was steady, strong, unwaveringly dependable and patient. He led by example and meant what he said. He inspired others to be better because we wanted to please him.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Henderson church of Christ Youth Group.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Ben Flatt, Roy Sharp and Charlie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Grand Junction Cemetery at 2:30 PM Saturday.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue on Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
