Joe Edward Donegan

Mr.Joe Edward Donegan departed this life on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Wayne Medical Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 88 Years, 7 Months, 6 Days. He was born July 19, 1925 in Hickman County, TN the son of the late Walter W. and Blanche Mae Hart Donegan. He was united in marriage to Nelda Sue Mathis on October 12, 1947 and she preceded him in death on April 26, 2007. Mr. Donegan enlisted in the Army April 23, 1943 and was discharged November 8, 1945. He served in the European Theatre during World War II receiving numerous awards including the Silver Star Medal. Mr. Donegan was very proud of his service and enjoyed telling others about his experiences in the military. Mr. Donegan, a member of Green River Baptist Church, was a Boy Scout Troop Leader and enjoyed umpiring ball games. He drove a truck for many years for Genesco and Laredo Boot Manufacturing.

He is survived by a son, Joel Donegan of Hendersonville, TN, grandchildren Dezarae and Katlyn, great grandchildren, Dustin and Raven, and a sister, Christine Sizemore of Waynesboro, TN. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Donegan was preceded in death by son; Shawn Donegan; a daughter in law, Deneese Donegan; brother, Winefred Donegan; and a sister, Fannie Workman.

Services will be Friday, February 28, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel in Waynesboro with Cal Hampton and Joel Donegan officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Waynesboro Memorial Gardens with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Gaylon Moore, Mike Padgett, Dustin Padgett, Jeff Minatra, Zach Briggs, and Kaleb Hawkins, hononary pallbearers are David Taylor and James Beckham.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00-9:00 PM and Friday from 8:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
