Services for Joel Douglas (Doug) Dicus of Waynesboro will be Friday, January 24, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Chapel in Waynesboro with David Miller and Sammy Franks officiating. Burial will follow in Walker Cemetery near Waynesboro with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers are James Ross, Mike Bottoms, Andy Yarbrough, Steve Wilson, Josh Polk, and Shelton Fitton, honorary pallbearer is Bill Crews.
Doug died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at his residence in Waynesboro at the age of 46 Years, 1 Month, 4 Days. He was born December 17, 1967 in Nashville, the son of the late James Donald and Margaret Modene Baker Dicus.
Doug graduated high school at Donelson Christian Academy in Nashville. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Tennessee and a J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee Law School in Knoxville. After graduation from law school he was admitted to the Tennessee Bar. Prior to relocating to Wayne County, he was an associate in the law firm of Clark Shaw in Nashville. He opened his law firm in Waynesboro in 1994 practicing general law. While practicing law in Waynesboro Mr. Dicus filled many positions including the Assistant District Attorney Post, a position he filled from 1996 until his death. He was the recipient of the Tennessee Bar Association Fellow. Also he was director of the 22nd judical task force. Mr Dicus, a Master Mason in the Doric Lodge in Nashville, became a member of Clifton Masonic Lodge 173 and was a member of the Baptist Church. Until recently he was part owner of a family cattle operation he shared with his late father and brother.
He is survived by brother, James Randall Dicus and wife Belinda of
Robards, KY, fiancé: Susan Franks of Waynesboro, nephew, Jacob Dicus and his wife Jessica, niece, Riley Faye Dicus all of Nashville.
