John Richard Peden was born December 11, 1947 in Lauderdale County, AL the son of the late John (Cap) Peden and Clara Lard Peden Huskey. Mr. Peden died Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at his home at the age of 66 Years, 1 Month, 24 Days. Mr. Peden, a volunteer at Southgate Fire Department, was retired from Izzy Office Furniture in Florence and was of the Baptist faith. He was married to Martha Purser June 29, 1969.
He is survived by his wife Martha Purser Peden of Iron City, his children, Sybrina Jackson and husband Chris of Collinwood, Chris Peden and wife Hope of Greenhill, and Anthony Peden and wife Amanda of Lutts, eight grandchildren, C.J. Jackson, Zachary Peden, Summer Peden, Stephanie Peden, Destiny Peden, Shannah Peden, Brooklyn Peden, and Dylan Peden,
a brother, Bill Peden of Tuscumbia, two sisters, Virginia Phillips of Florence and Mary Mitchell of Loretto. In addition to his parents, Mr. Peden was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlena Peden, a son, John Peden Jr., three brothers, Roy, Clifford, and Benton, sisters, Hilda Chaney and Judy Lindsey.
Services are scheduled for Friday, February 7, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Chapel in Collinwood with Keith Montgomery and Jimmy Shields officiating. Burial will follow in the Railroad Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers are Robert Bogus, David Todd, Jimmy Vaughn, Chris Lawson, Derek Purser, Ronnie Jackson, Tim Chaney, and Roger Keeton.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00-9:00 PM and Friday from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00 at the funeral home.
