Johnny Neal Plunk

November 23, 1925 — October 3, 2013

Johnny Neal Plunk was born November 23, 1925 in McNairy County, TN, the son of the late Robert Henry and Willie Moore Plunk.

He was united in marriage to Joyce Elizabeth Murray on December 4, 1944. Mrs. Plunk preceded him in death on October 27, 2012.

Mr. Plunk enjoyed a long and active life that so many young men of his generation sacrificed to this country. He served in the Army during World War II where he was captured and held prisoner by the Germans for three weeks and released when the war ended in Europe. He came home to his wife, and made their home in the Murray Hill community. He was a member of the church of Christ in Bethel Springs, and served as an elder there for many years. He worked as a sewing machine mechanic and in the sawmill business. Eventually, he took up carpentry, which was the skill he was best known for. He built many houses, and there is furniture far and wide that bears his mark. He enjoyed many hobbies including beekeeping, gardening, working on clocks, and woodworking. In their later years together, Joyce and Johnny enjoyed driving to town to eat breakfast or lunch together, they were rarely apart. He was also active and involved for many years in the McNairy County Historical Society.

Mr. Plunk departed this life on October 3, 2013 in Humboldt, Tennessee at the age of 87 Years, 10 Months, 10 Days.

He is survived by three sons, Dennis Plunk, Steve Plunk and wife Sharon, Mike Plunk and wife Marilyn, all of Bethel Springs, TN; six grandchildren, Amy Smith and husband Micah, Stephanie Cox and husband Clay, Philip Plunk and wife BreAnn, Adam Plunk and wife Emily, Lori Plunk, and Grant Isbell; twelve great-grandchildren, Ella, Jonah, and Lydia Smith, Ava, Jett, and Jagger Cox, Owen Plunk, Gavin, Ryder, and Edee Plunk, and Taylor and Anabell Pierce.
