Julia A."Julie" Carr

Julia Ann “Julie” Carr (Austin), aged 78, of Scotts Hill, Tennessee, passed away June 24, 2017. She was born July 2, 1938, in Scotts Hill, Tennessee.

She is survived by her two sons John Phillip Carr of Midland, TX, and Jason Carr (Carmen) of West Memphis, AR; 13 grandchildren: Ashley Mical, Jessica Pruitt, Laura McClure, Allison “Birdie” Butler, Megan “Sunshine” Carr, Jeanna Mae Carr, Amanda Carr-Black, Robyn Robbins, Forrest Coleman, Ellie Carr, Bailey Carr, Katie Carr, and Mallory Carr; and 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters Kathleen McVey and Mary Alice Yarbro and one brother Billy Austin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert “Curt” Austin and Mae “Mammy” Creasy Austin; her husband, Carl D. Carr; a son, Joseph Stanley "Joey" Carr; 10 sisters and brothers, LuDean Austin, Landon Austin, Herbert Austin, Colleen Wilbanks, MacArthur Austin, Irma Dean Austin, Betty Buczynski, Barnie Lambert, Ollie Faye Evans, and Charles Curtis Austin.

Julie attended Scotts Hill High School where she excelled in basketball. After graduation, she moved to Chicago, IL, where she met Carl D. Carr. They were married on December 30, 1963.

Julie and her family returned to the mid-south in 1978 and eventually settled in West Memphis, AR, in 1982. While there, Julie worked as a school cafeteria cashier at Faulk Elementary until her retirement. After this, she returned home to Scotts Hill to live amongst those family members who still lived in the area. Throughout her life she was a member of the Church of Christ and ended her days as a member of Liberty Church of Christ in Scotts Hill.

Julie will be remembered for her passion for music, particularly congregational singing. She had an encyclopedic knowledge of the Bible and could rival a botanist with her ability to catalog the plants and trees in her garden. She was quick witted and loved making others laugh—especially around the dinner table laden with her chicken and dumplings, Polish sausage bean soup, pot roast, and corn bread. She was a beloved sister, wife, mother, and grandmother who gave so much of herself to help others in any way she could.
