Julian McAdams

October 12, 1926 — September 2, 2014

Robert Julian McAdams was born in Chester County, Tennessee on October 12, 1926, the son of Guy Talmadge and Myrtice Rhodes McAdams. On May 27, 1947, at the age of 20, he married Mozelle Cash; they settled in Hardin County, Tennessee before he entered the Army in 1951. The end of his service brought him back to Hardin County and employment with the Board of Education, first as a teacher at Saltillo, Tennessee and then as a teacher and principal at Eureka. Leaving Eureka, he served as an assistant principal at the Hardin County High School then as principal at Pickwick Southside. His last tenure as a principal took place at North Elementary after which he became the Assistant Superintendent for Hardin County schools. After 35 years in education and administration, Julian retired.

Woodworking was his hobby of choice, yielding everything imaginable from clocks and candle holders to furniture and mirrors—and anything else he could possibly craft. If asked to make something for someone he would never agree; the image of looming deadlines was not one he enjoyed. Without ever consenting, he would still fulfill the request, with no deadlines and no expectations . . . and no charge. Julian gave away much of what he made.

Julian and Mozelle were active members of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. One of his greatest loves was his family—his wife of 65 years, his two sons, his grandchildren and eventually his great-grandchildren. Family time was a time to enjoy being together and a time he always relished.

Julian McAdams left this world on September 2, 2014 at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 20 days. Mozelle had preceded him in death almost two years before on September 15, 2012. He is survived by his two sons, Bob McAdams and his wife, Renee, and Jerry McAdams and his wife, Melissa, his sister, Cornelia Cash of Milan, Tennessee, three grandchildren, Stacey McAdams, Carrie Northcutt and her husband, Chad, and Robert McAdams and his wife, Amanda, and seven great-grandchildren, Hayes and Darcy Puffer, Emilie, Sophie, and Millie Northcutt, and Rylee and Carter McAdams.

In addition to his wife and parents, Julian was preceded in death by his two brothers, Berlin McAdams and Hayes McAdams.
