Kenny Gibbs

September 21, 1940 — September 23, 2017

James Kenneth Gibbs (Kenny), of Savannah, Tennessee departed this life on September 23, 2017 at the age of 77 years and 2 days, due to health complications following surgery. He was born September 21, 1940 in Crump, Tennessee to the parents of Birdie Harue Moffett Gibbs and Finley Edgar (Tony) Gibbs.

Kenny was a graduate of Savannah Central High School in 1959 and later was employed by Frito-Lay Inc for 29 years. He was a salesman and delivered to local businesses and stores. His customers enjoyed his kindness and service as their chip man. He retired in 1994. Kenny's hobbies included coon hunting, fishing, and camping, and riding his Harley. He also spent many hours in his shop where he restored old cars and became a collector of Volkswagens. Other interests included collecting antiques, watching the tv, getting on his computer, and working in his yard. Most important to Kenny was his large family and wonderful friends. He was generous, kind and brought laughter to all who knew him.

Kenny is survived by his 3 children, Jeffrey Gibbs of Hendersonville, Gaye Gibbs King of Savannah, Kenna Gibbs Stanfill of Crump, and their families, including Shawn Davidson, Robin King and Tim Stanfill, his former wife and mother of their children Patsy Handley Gibbs of Savannah, as well as his God son, Terry Finley (Dober) , and wife Tina. He was Papaw to 7 grandchildren, Emily Burns, Anna Watanabe, Timmy, Kenlee, Kimberlin, and Tyler Stanfill, and Carson Finley. He was Great Papaw to 4 children.

Kenny is also survived by long time companion Josie Short of Savannah and her children, Mark and Jr. Short, Samantha Burks and Sharon Roberts and many grandchildren. Two of her grand daughters, Kayla and Delana helped him in every way possible.

Kenny was the 11th of 14 children. His Brother Bobby G. Gibbs and sister Martha Gibbs Davey both of Adamsville survives him. He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings, John Elmer Gibbs, W M Gibbs, Charlyne Gibbs Powell, Margaret Gibbs Scott, Louise Gibbs Watson, Hoover Gibbs, Joe Gibbs, Fay Gibbs, Ray Gibbs, Billy Gibbs, and Donny Gibbs.

Kenny was loved by many nieces and nephews, in-laws, family members and friends and will be greatly missed. Service will be held at Shackelford Funeral Home in Savannah at 11 am, Tuesday, September 26, 2017, officiated by his great nephew, Michael Gibbs. Visitation for family will be September 25 at 5pm, followed by friends at 5:30-8 pm and 9 am - 11 am before the service on Tuesday. Burial is at Crump Cemetery.
