Larry was born December 3, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Vance and Mardell Anderson Marberry. As a preacher’s kid, he moved with his family to several pastorates in Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama and Tennessee. Larry accepted Christ as his savior as a young boy and was baptized by his father in the St. Francis River near Rector, Arkansas. He had been a member of the Meridian Baptist Church in Jackson for twenty-eight years where he had served on the building committee for the new sanctuary, the finance committee, the sound committee, and the building and grounds committee.
The Marberry family moved to Henderson in 1960. It was while living in Henderson that he met and married Joan Talley on June 20, 1964. They would have celebrated their fiftieth anniversary this June. To their union a precious daughter, Andrea Leigh Marberry, was born.
In 1972 Larry, Joan and Andrea moved to Jackson, Tennessee where they opened Marberry’s Men’s Fashions on South Highland. For twenty years Larry helped dress the men of Jackson and surrounding areas with great pride. Once he decided to transition out of the clothing business, he and Tommy Carson worked together in the small sign business – Econo Sign Company. He remained in the sign business until 2008, when he retired.
After retirement, Larry enjoyed working on his antique cars and spending time at the farm in Henderson. He loved music, especially southern gospel and Elvis.
