Mr. Lavern Simer, age 81, of Toone, passed away Saturday morning, April 26, 2014 at his daughter's home in Bolivar.
The husband of Mary Katherine Dodd Simer, who survives, he was retired as director of environmental services at Western Mental Health Insitute and was a farmer. He was born November 8, 1932, in Hardeman County, son of the late Willie Hugh Simer and Ethel Mae Harris Simer and lived all of his life here. He was a US Navy veteran, serving in Korea and was active in the VFW. His family states that he most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Simer was a member of Shandy Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, whom he married on December 15, 1956, survivors include two daughters and a son in law, Debby Ross (Butch) of Bolivar and Becky Adams of Collierville; two sons and their wives, Ronnie Simer (Annette) and Tim Simer (Vickie), all of Bolivar; two sisters, Hazel Sterling of Bolivar and Ethel Mae Doles of Toone; two brothers, Robert Simer of Peoria, IL and S.D. Simer of Jackson; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Anthony Baker and 8 brothers and sisters.
