LEE QUITMAN COLE
Henderson, TN: Lee Quitman Cole, age 86 passed away November 29, 2014 at the Henderson Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
Mr. Cole was born on February 1, 1928 to Frank James Cole and Myrtie Lee Cole in Prentiss County, Mississippi. He was educated at Hills Chapel School and later attended International Bible College in Florence, Alabama. He married Vera Mae Tucker on November 11, 1945 in Tremont, Mississippi.
For most of his career, Mr. Cole was a self-employed trucker. He was also a gospel preacher who served as the fulltime minister for the New Bethel Church of Christ and Zion’s Rest Church of Christ in Mississippi. He participated in evangelistic campaigns in various states and did mission work in Trinidad and Russia. He was an active member of the Booneville Church of Christ in Mississippi. In 1998 he and his wife moved to Henderson, TN where he became a member of the Henderson Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Stephen Reed Sweeney, and 2 sisters, Marie Burns and Mary Lee Young.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Vera Mae Tucker Cole, two sons, Gary Cole (Myra) of Carbon Hill, Alabama, Frankie Cole (Debbie) of Huntsville, Alabama, and one daughter, Debbie Sweeney (John) of Henderson, TN, six grandchildren, Lee Ann West (Richard), David Sweeney (Janet), Christie Stevens, Kristen Sanderson (Ed), Jaime Cole and Frankie Cole, Jr., twelve great-grandchildren, and a sister, Edith Foster of Iuka, MS, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express love and gratitude to all his compassionate caregivers at Henderson Health and Rehabilitation Center during the last two years of his life.
Memorials in Mr. Cole’s honor may be made to the Carl Perkins Center for Prevention of Child Abuse or the Mission Fund of the Henderson Church of Christ.
A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
