LINNIE GARNER JOHNSON
Henderson, TN: Linnie Mae Garner Johnson age 96 passed away January 24, 2018 at her home.
She was born October 8, 1921 in the Phillips School Community of Chester County, the daughter of the late Ruel McCager and Ottie Edna Patterson Garner. She graduated Chester County High School in 1940 and in 1941 married Leonard Elmo Johnson. She worked at Salant & Salant while Mr. Johnson was in the service. After WWII they owned and operated Corner Grocery from 1956 until 1967. She was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to watch the Tennessee Vols, particularly the Lady Vols basketball, and also enjoyed the Atlanta Braves.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by a son, Dr. Ronald Johnson and two daughters, Linda Price and Kay Cromwell all of Henderson; seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, three brothers; J.W. Garner of Memphis, Bill Garner of Birmingham and Ruel Garner of Dallas, TX; and four sisters; Lynn Morrow of Smithville, MS, Earline Burns of Steele, MO, Judy Barnes of Hattiesburg, MS and Janice Maravelias of Dallas, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmo Johnson in 2007 and two brothers; Albert Garner and Ray Garner and four sisters Bonnie Hurst, Nell Smith, Martha Shapley, and Jo Ellen Biddle.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Ben Flatt and Bill Garner officiating. Burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue from 5 PM until 9 PM Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM until 2 pm.
