Mr. Kirby passed away Thursday evening at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
The husband of Alma Sue Nelms Kirby, who survives, he worked as a farmer for over 50 years, working for his friend, George Mitchell, whom he considered a brother, for 27 years. He was born Sunday, September 15, 1940, in Etowah, Tennessee, son of the late Prentiss Edmond Kirby and Myrtle Ruby Kirby and lived in Michigan for a while, prior to moving here in 1958. He married Alma Sue on May 16, 1962 and enjoyed fishing and collecting model cars. His greatest enjoyment came from being around his family and his grandchildren, whom he dearly loved. Mr. Kirby was Pentecostal in faith.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons and their wives, Randall and Faye Kirby of Middleton and Frankie & Charlcy Kirby of Brownsville; a daughter, Peggy Kirby of Bolivar; two sisters, Shirley Gooch (Carl) of Middleton and Bonnie Nelson of Bolivar; two brothers, Richard Kirby (April) of Middleton and Terry Kirby (Mable) of Finger; four grandchildren, Christy, Amber, Tyler and Zack; one great grandchild, Abby; 3 special cousins, Cindy, Carol and Mary all of Arkansas; nieces, Lisa Vaughan & Wendy Kirby; nephews, Mitchell Kirby, Josh (Ester) Kirby; a special nephew, Shawn Kirby (Candace); a special niece, Maddie Kirby; a great niece, Zeeza Kirby; and two special great nephews, Cameron & Jaxon Kirby. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Bobby and Roscoe Kirby. The family requests memorial donations in his name be made to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org/donate) or LeBonheur Children's Medical Center (lebonheur.org/donate).
