Mrs. Lora Maxwell, age 93 of Middleton, TN, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Pine Meadows Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bolivar, TN.
Mrs. Maxwell, known by many as Granny, was born in Hardeman County, TN, March 20, 1920, to the late William Rufus and Mattie Majors Howell. On January 13, 1937, she was united in marriage to Mr. Loyd Maxwell, who preceded her in death October 13, 1998. She was a retiree from Western Mental Health, a homemaker and was a member of the Middleton Church of Christ. Among her hobbies, she especially enjoyed cooking, quilting and traveling.
Survivors include three sons - Don Maxwell and wife Carolyn of Bossier City, LA, Jim Maxwell and wife Pat of Middleton, TN and Barry Maxwell and wife Kathy of Paducah, KY; four daughters - Hilda Beatse and husband Chuck of Middleton, TN, Beverly Martindale and husband Mickey of Courtland, MS, Patricia Carter and husband Eddie of Middleton, TN, and Rose Keller and husband, Bobby of Middleton, TN; 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers - Benny, Boatman, Elmer, Lloyd, Sam and Preston Howell, all of Hardeman County; five sisters - Eldis McAlpin of Bolivar, Elsie Barnes of Los Angeles, CA, Lena Maxwell of Bolivar, Mary Magadline Howell of Bolivar, and Madie Nordness of Baltimore, MD; and a granddaughter, Tonia Maxwell Hart; and a great-granddaughter, Layla Beatse-Arrowood.
