BUDDY MURLEY
Memphis, TN: Luther Edward 'Buddy' Murley age 87 passed away May 3, 2018 at
the VA Medical Center in Memphis.
He was born February 24, 1931 in what is now the Chickasaw State Park area
of Chester County, the son of the late Henry Clay and Ruby Lucille Murdaugh
Murley. He attended schools in Chester County and graduated at Los Angeles
Trade Tech. He entered the U.S. Navy and served two tours of duty in Korea.
He served on the U.S.S. Shelton as well as two other ships. One of his
assignments included the rescue of downed pilots behind enemy lines.
He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
He married Louise Rich in 1953 and they made their home in Los Angeles and
Memphis. She died in 1971. He later married Wilma Reasons and they made
their home in Memphis.
He retired as a service manager for a local car dealership in Memphis. He
was an automotive and diesel mechanic during his career. Before that he
worked in the Aerospace industry in California, working with test pilots for
the new upcoming jets. As a young man he farmed and worked with his Dad and
cousins at the Murley-Cox Sawmill, which became the A.M. Cox sawmill.
After retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising bird dogs.
Mr. Murley is survived by a daughter, Teresa Murley of Memphis and three
sons, Wayne E. Murley of Memphis, Keith E. Murley of Bremen, Germany and
Craig E. Murley of Memphis; four grandchildren; a sister, Doris Siler of
Henderson and a brother, Larry N. Murley of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Herman Lee Murley and
two sisters, Willie Mae Kursave and Winna Knipper.
Graveside services will be 5:00 PM Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Bethel
Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford Funeral Directors - Crook
Avenue 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM on Saturday.
