Marie Petty was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on April 10, 1924, the daughter of the late Edgar and Leathe Hopper Irons. On December 4, 1947, she was united in marriage to Harvey Ross Petty, who preceded her in death on May 7, 2009. Mrs. Petty departed this life on May 26, 2018, at the age of 94 years, 1 month, and 16 days.
Mrs. Petty attended First Baptist Church in Adamsville, Tennessee, where she was active in Sunday School and other church activities. She was a Gray Lady when the hospital in Selmer was first opened. In her younger years, she worked through Christmas seasons at Mildred's Dress Shop and part time at a florist during busy times. She was involved with the Senior Citizens Center and took many trips with them. Mrs. Petty's family was the most important thing to her, and they will always remember her as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Mrs. Petty is survived by her children, Neita Coffman and Larry Neal (Bo) Petty, both of Adamsville, Tennessee; brother, Bobby Irons; sister, Patsy Powell; grandchildren, Angie Ricketts, Hunter Petty, and Barrett Neal Petty; and great grandchildren, Blakely Ricketts and Rylie Ricketts.
In addition to her spouse and parents, Mrs. Petty was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth Irons, Willie Irons, and Joe Irons; sisters, Annie Mae Scott and Dorothy Irons; and a son-in-law, Billy Mitchell Coffman.
