Marie Harper Southerland

Marie Harper Southerland of Collinwood, TN was born November 19, 1929 in Cypress Inn, TN, the daughter of the late Roy Lee and Mearle Rosie Shepard Harper. She was united in marriage to Fredrick Hoover Southerland on April 10, 1948. and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2004.

Mrs. Southerland was a retired sales clerk and volunteered at hospitals. She was a member of the Scotts Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Cypress Inn, Tennessee.

Mrs. Southerland departed this life on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Wayne County Nursing Home in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 84 Years, 4 Months, 23 Days.

She is survived by a daughter, Connie McFarlin of Collinwood, TN; grandchildren, Sherry Lee Wesley and husband, John of Ypsilanti, MI and Michael Ryan McFarlin of Southgate, MI; step-great-grandchild, Codie Wesley; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Harper of Florence, AL and Evelyn Harper of Brownstown, MI; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Southerland was preceded in death by brothers, Delbert and Royce Leyonne Harper and a sister, Geneieve Harper Stricklin.

Services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee, with David Berry and Junior Overstreet officiating. Burial will follow in the McGlamery Cemetery, Collinwood, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Michael McFarlin, Ron McFarlin, John Wesley, Carl Harper, Elzo Smith, David Berry and Keith Harper.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 6 pm to 9 pm and Friday, April 18, 2014 from 9 am until service time at the funeral home.
