Henderson, TN: Virginia Melton Burress age 96 passed away January 28, 2018 at the Henderson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born and reared in the Plainview Community of Chester County, the daughter of the late A.L. and Rebecca Wallace Melton. She attended school in Chester County and in 1941 she was married to Lafayette Burress and they made their home in Henderson. Mr. Burress was in the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving aboard the USS Antienam Aircraft Carrier. Mrs. Burress and her husband operated the Queens Cup in Henderson from 1955 to 1960. Mrs. Burress was employed by Salant and Salant Mfg. for 35 years and also Chester County Mfg. for 20 years. Mrs. Burress retired in 1983. Mr. Burress died in 2001. Since that time Mrs. Burress made her home with her daughter and son in law in the Malesus Community in Madison County. Mrs. Burress was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson and a member of the Chapter 120 Eastern Star in Henderson.
Mrs. Burress is survived by her daughter Ann Bailey and husband Don and a grandson Greg Bailey all of Jackson, TN.
She was preceded in death by four brothers; David Melton, Wallace Melton, Paul Melton and Freddie Melton and a sister Mary Lee Bishop.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, February 01, 2018 Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Mark Cagle officiating. Burial will follow in the Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel.
